The Footscray Fortune Garden was a modern, urban paradise installed in the heart of a predominantly South East Asian neighbourhood in Melbourne, Australia. Inspired by Eastern superstitions of luck and prosperity, the garden consisted of plastic flowers and trees sourced from the many discount stores of Footscray. Water lilies floated in ponds, colourful plastic stools invited visitors to sit, blowing fans created a breeze, and the sound effects were recorded from electronic feng shui artworks, readily found throughout Footscray Market.
This installation was exhibited first at Trocadero Artspace, and then again at Brunswick Bound Gallery in 2008.
